Midnight Echoes

Midnight Echoes: A sonnet of conflict and destiny

In shadows cast, tensions rise once more,

Unmanned vessels dance ‘neath the moon’s pale glow,

A vital link becomes a target’s core,

Where powers clash in waters dark below.

Munitions pierce, with uranium’s might,

Aid for the battle, strong and uncontrolled,

In conflict’s grip, they’ll join the fervent fight,

As tales unfurl, their destiny foretold.

Forces make their stand towards the south,

Progress blooms, a glimmer in the night,

But shells bring sorrow, quelling hope’s mouth,

In streets of strife, where darkness takes its flight.

As battles rage, and destinies unfold,

Nations brace, uncertain paths explored.

Do we grasp the course we’re boldly steering?

In this uncertain dance, who truly soars?

This poem is a reflection of my feelings about the enduring war in Ukraine. I find myself weary of the conflict, just like many others. It explores the latest news of battles, and the frustrating inability to bring all that to an end.

We all share this collective fatigue, and it’s disheartening that political complexities and interests continue to fuel the flames, leaving us yearning for a resolution that remains out of reach.

It reminds me of the emotions I had on that same 11th of September 2001. It reminds me we still live in a scary world.
