Tears: a short story about pain and love

Tears

– This is our sea, my daughter. Yours, mine, our sea. It’s so immense and salty, my darling. It’s our sea.

With madness, the angry waves break on the coast. I observe them in silence, like a painter who frames them in his painting.

– And why is the sea salty, daddy?

– I’m going to tell you a story…

… many years ago, the Goddess of Love came down to Earth to help humans defeat Death.

– Love will save your souls from Death — she told them.

People listened to her, but instead for the better, they focused everything on a love of vices: love of lies, money, and war. And pure and sincere love was lost somewhere in the sewers.

The Goddess of Love was very sorry and when she saw something terrible that tortured innocent creatures, she sat on a rock and cried. That is how the sea was created.

– And why, daddy, can’t I see the Goddess of Love?

– When the Goddess realized that Evil was expanding its domain, she turned into billions of invisible needles. Each of them found a place in a human heart. That’s why, when we cry, we notice how it sinks in there deeply.

– Why does it have to hurt us, dad?

– Because every tear is a piece of love detached for someone or for something. Our tears prove that the Goddess of Love still cries through our eyes. But, my beautiful little girl, why are you crying?

– I miss mammy!

– But I just told you that she is inside our hearts. She is always with us! It starts getting dark, honey. Let’s go to our sea!

And yes, now I remember why I was created. I put the painting of the sea aside and… I hope you feel the pain when I plunge into your heart!

¡Vámonos a nuestro mar!
